Carbs or carbohydrates are essential for our body, they give us energy, but if we eat the wrong kind, then they can take that energy away and make us gain weight. But, there’s a whole family of other carbs that are good for us. This can result in heart disease and other illnesses. Very low carb diets can also mean that you are not getting enough fibre in your diet and this can lead to various problems, such as constipation and problems with your digestion. Also, fibre is not only good for our general health, but very important when dieting, especially soluble fibre. This kind of fibre, when mixed with water, swells in our stomachs, makes us feel fuller longer and so we lose weight. It’s also excellent for stabilizing our blood sugar levels. Some diets are high in protein, which can be a bad thing, as too much protein can cause kidney problems, amongst other things.
